An interesting point - thank you for reading and commenting. But, even if you're right, I do still have a couple of questions: (1) What, in these novels, is the difference between Harry's pov and the narrator's. IS there a difference, and are we ever supposed to notice? I ask because I sometimes get the impression that those who love these books see them as darkly ironic and Harry as an unreliable narrator. That's a neat pov, but I can't see any evidence in the text for it. It seems to me that we are supposed to think Harry = right.
2. Also, I've got a real problem with Harry's never learning anything. How can he be on a "hero's journey" if he does not learn, change and grow? How can Rowling say hers are "moral books" when her child hero *never* has to say "thank you" or "I'm sorry". I truly wanted to hear both those sentences from Harry by the end of DH,and I didn't.

Turning into a rant again! Thanks for reading-
