experimental goldfish keeping-

This afternoon at lunchtime, Dr. Tepper came by to install his top-of-tank filtration system (mentioned below) on Charlie Weasley Goldfish's tank. We ran into a slight glitch because I had to run to the hardware to buy a couple of short lengths of 2 by 4 to support the little refugium - also, I don't yet know what I'm going to do with my old hood and biowheel. But I am thrilled! It's not the most beautiful looking filter you ever saw, but it is *so simple*. I suddenly don't have cords everywhere - just one for the water pump, and one for the light. And the doctor says I should change water as the pH dictates - but, if possible, only once a month. Unheard of for a goldfish!

Anyway, everything seems to be going well so far, but we'll have to wait a couple of months to really start seeing results. Then, the doctor says, he wants me to write a paper. So I've got to take careful notes in the meantime. I just hope I can keep the tank cool enough through the summer.

Oh - when the doc actually saw Charlie, he said he was a little too thin and I should feed him more. Charlie will not object to that!
