With hindsight, you were spot on about Dumbledore's hand, weren't you? I like this story very much - the characters of the children (and of Snape!), and the sense of possibilities, of stories waiting to unfold. But it's odd to think of a kind, friendly Dumbledore, and that I once believed in him too - I can only see the cold puppet-master now.
