A sense of "us" vs. "them" where anyone "them" is bad without question, no need to think about reasons, etc.

There is a three-part interview with Rowling on YouTube somewhere that I found to be offensive. Somewhere during that interview, she laughs and tells the host and audience of a British interview show that (paraphrasing) at least they were able to keep the Americans out of the movies. The audience applauded.

I get the whole need to rebuild the British film industry after some restrictiveness in the past. I sympathize with these actors. If it was me, if I was an actor in an establishment which is going downhill to the point where I need to work my craft in another country, I'd feel protective as well. I think the history of recent British problems in film is at the BAFTA website if you're interested.

However.

Rowling didn't say anything about revitalizing British film. She didn't say anything about keeping the brightest and best at home. She took an exclusionary stance and said that at least it was kept all-British without Americans (can we mentally add "pesky, pushy, ugly" to the quote since that's the way it came off?) horning in. It was an "insider" comment, definitely "us" against "Other". Despicable.
