Well, I'm not sure how helpful this would be, but I did find a website for WWII vets (http://ww2.vet.org/). Unfortunately, it's very much a website built in 1997, alas.

...also the Navy, in Kansas? That would not be the branch I would expect to find there. What was your father stationed there for?
