Some real life oddness-
A couple of scary events this past week -
My Dad told us on the phone that our next-door neighbor had chased off a 250-pound black bear that was eating the seed from his bird feeder. I said to Dad, "I guess we'd better not put out any bread for the crows any more."
He answered, "I thought of that. But I haven't seen the crows around lately."
I imagine both of us thought, but didn't say, that maybe the crows are scared of the bear. I sure am! The neighbor said this one had two tags in its ears already. I asked Dad if the neighbor had called the fish and game guys, and he said he didn't know. Twenty years ago, you would never have seen or heard of a bear in Litchfield county. It's great that wildlife is making a comeback, and I am willing to live and let live, but I'm also pretty scared of bears.
However, down here in NY, I saw something even more frightening. I was driving home and turned onto the road by the hospital, where there is a four-way stop. I stopped, as is required by law - and the guy in the SUV behind me leaned on his horn, whipped round me at a double yellow line, blasted straight through the stop sign, raced up to the red light at the end of the block, and tore through it as well - turning left on red. Not a police car, fire truck or ambulance, mind you - just an ordinary, civilian SUV. How I wish I had gotten his license number! But he was obviously moving too fast for me to read it. What a jerk, though! Can you imagine how many accidents he could have caused in the space of 100 yards? There is no excuse for that behavior, IMHO.
Oh - and my temporary crown fell off THREE TIMES in the space of two weeks. I will have been to the dentist five times since the middle of July. So, a pretty weird week. Mom continues to make progress, though, and the rest of us are hanging in there. Also, today is an absolutely beautiful day, dentists and crazy drivers aside. )
