Yes - a friend of mine (Palestinian-American) suggested that I do exactly as you did. The only reason I didn't is that I thought my alternate candidate had no chance at all, and I did not want to see a situation where a candidate won the electoral college but lost the popular vote.
But this really struck me as a choice between two evils. I wasn't thrilled. And it upsets me a LOT that people in this country are not up in arms about our violations of basic human rights abroad and our loss of civil liberties at home. Both these things have only increased under Obama, and they need to stop!
