Yeah on the lack of common sense, there's a couple of people -- Snape, McGonagall, Hermione -- who I just want to applaud for good horse sense (and lack of hypocrisy). I once found myself saying to the pages of GoF, "Honestly! At least Voldemort has business sense!"
