Tada! You are the Tardis!
You are a creative soul and more than a little eccentric. You might say your relentless zest for life makes you BIGGER on the INSIDE! Impulsive and curious, you lead the Doctor where he needs to go and not necessarily where he wants to go. You're full of wanderlust, a romantic at heart and irresistibly sexy!

Beware - your passion for raw adventure can make you forgetful. Please call home from time to time!

The lovely Amanda McCrina, author of the historical fantasy His Own Good Sword (which all Sutcliff and Megan Whalen Turner fans should go and read, forthwith!), has invited me to participate in the 7/7 blog challenge. Here are the rules: You are to pick a WIP and post seven lines from page seven. It's supposed to be the first seven lines, but I'm not being that strict, and you don't have to be, either. After posting, you are to invite seven other authors to post seven lines from page seven of their WIP. So - I'm inviting Mike Mullin, [ profile] jongibbs, R. J. Anderson, Lena Roy, [ profile] logospilgrim, [ profile] sigune (if she wants to do it!), and [ profile] jessica_shea. Again, this is only if you want to do it and/or think it would be fun or helpful! And now, seven random lines from page seven of A Drive of Dragons:

"Welcome to our palace. Did you have a good journey?" Princess Verity asked automatically. She had rehearsed this part of the conversation several times with her mother.

"The journey was pleasant, but too long. I could not wait to see you," Adalbart answered. Verity stared at him in astonishment. She couldn't believe he meant what he was saying, especially since he was frowning and touching his carefully disordered curls with one hand while he gazed into something he was holding with the other. What was he holding? A hand mirror? Verity stepped closer to see, and the prince thrust the object into his jacket, blushing.

I was honored to be nominated for the versatile blogger award. Amanda McCrina nominated me, and you can find her blog here: For Great Justice

Here are the rules:

* In a post on your blog, nominate 15 fellow bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award.
* In the same post, add the Versatile Blogger Award.
* In the same post, thank the blogger who nominated you by linking back to their blog.
* In the same post, share 7 completely random pieces of information about yourself.
* In the same post, include this set of rules.
* Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination.

I am honestly not sure I can nominate 15 fellow bloggers! I'm not even sure I regularly follow 15 blogs! But there are a few I read quite religiously. So here goes:

Jon Gibbs, of course! [ profile] jongibbs
My sister: [ profile] deirdrej
RJ Anderson: [ profile] rj_anderson
Rattlesnakeroot: [ profile] rattlesnakeroot
Litlover: [ profile] litlover12
Kristin Cashore: [ profile] kristincashore
Logospilgrim: [ profile] logospilgrim
Anne Arthur: [ profile] anne_arthur
Terri Testing: [ profile] terri_testing
Elanor X: [ profile] elanor_x
Exhpfan: [ profile] exhpfan

There are several other blogs I also follow, but I'm not including the political ones! hhertzoff, puckling, and anyone else who wants to jump in, you are officially nominated! Oh, and (editing) I also read Lena Roy's blog quite regularly. Lena, you're nominated!
Lena's Lit Life

Seven random things - eek! My mind's gone blank.
1. I'm a twin.
2. I have dreamed of getting an electric bike.
3. One of the most exciting events of my late teen years was meeting Madeleine L'Engle in her writing studio.
4. When I was nine, I wanted to be an astronaut.
5. When I was twelve, I lived in Rochester, U.K., with my family. I was a huge Dickens fan (still am), and mom wanted me to join the local Dickens society, but I refused. I'm rather sorry about that now.
6. I own an eMate (precursor to the iBook). Alas, it's not likely to be valuable, but it's cute! (and still somewhat useful).
7. Cheating, because I did this for another meme: I once took my goldfish to the vet. His name, btw, was Gilbert Keith Chesterton Goldfish.

Music quiz

Another quiz whose results I quite liked - hope I manage to copy it all this time!

Your result for Short Test Of Music Preferences (STOMP-R)...

Intense & Rebellious

66% Reflective-Complex, 69% Intense-Rebellious, 38% Upbeat-Conventional and 45% Energetic-Rhythmic!

The Intense and Rebellious dimension displays moderately complex structure and intense negative emotions.

The Intense and Rebellious dimension was positively related to Openness to New Experiences, athleticism, self-perceived intelligence, and verbal ability. Interestingly, despite previous findings that this dimension contains music that emphasizes negative emotions, individuals who prefer music in this dimension do not appear to display signs of neuroticism or disagreeableness. Overall, individuals who prefer intense and rebellious music tend to be curious about different things, enjoy taking risks, are physically active, and consider themselves intelligent.

Your Personality Cluster is Introverted Feeling

You are:

You are tolerant, flexible, and open to new ideas.

You are also a stickler for integrity and authenticity.

You are totally passionate. You speak your mind about causes, beliefs, or politics.

You are likely to have many "best friends" from many walks of life.

Both Bluestocking and Condwiramurs did this one first, so I gave it a try. Came out the same way both times I took it-

You Are a Green M&M

You are a compassionate and forgiving person. You believe that this world truly lacks understanding.

You are gentle and graceful with every word and action. You want to be a positive force in other people's lives.

You are reliable and faithful. You go out of your way to protect and care for your friends and family.

You strive for harmony and peace. You approach everyone in a loving and nonjudgmental way.

And I think I'm pleased with that result, though I don't think it's entirely me. I'm not sure I'm that nice! My sister, Deirdrej, came out a yellow M&M.

I have to admit, I know the show well enough to cheat a bit - I tweaked the results. Actually, I think I'm' a natural Picard. ;) But I did like what I got - except for the bad language. That's not really me, but hey! I don't think it's really Sisko, either.

Your result for Which Starfleet Captain Are You?...

Captain Sisko

14% Kirk, 38% Picard, 46% Sisko, 17% Janeway, 33% Archer

You've always had a nasty temper on you. But it has served you well. You single-handedly fucked-up the Cardassians, the Klingons, the Cardassians again, the Dominion, AND the Breen! Hell, you even punched Q in the fucking face! That guy can literally snap his fingers and make your body turn inside-out. But you don't care. He's a jerk and he pissed you off. You made him pay. You may have ended-up in a stupid subplot about weird wormhole god-creatures, but you still kick ass! And you would be hard-pressed to find a starfleet captain who enunciates his consenants as well as you do.

And I, too, rather like how it came out!

Your result for The Sorting Hat: A Comprehensive Harry Potter Personality Assessment [Test/Quiz]...

52% Ravenclaw, 54% Hufflepuff, 50% Slytherin and 47% Gryffindor!

Hope everyone had a good and safe Memorial Day weekend - that is, those who had it off. I got this quiz from Unknown Impulse's journal, and am posting it here. Anyone who wants to can grab it from me!

Your result for The Commonly Confused Words Test...

English Genius

You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 100% Expert!

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

This didn't give me the option to share on livejournal any more (at least, I couldn't see how), so I'm just posting the results below. The questions were interesting!

I think I've done this before, and I also think the results have changed a little! Anyone who wants to can steal this quiz from me; I found it on Shadowfax's livejournal.

So, mary-j-59, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 0% unique, 0% peculiar, 44% interesting, 22% normal and 33% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy writing). When it comes to friends you are normal. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are wary of trusting strangers. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is intellectual.

Your overall weirdness is: 9

(The average level of weirdness is: 28.
You are weirder than 15% of other LJers.)

I got this one from ferporcel, and anyone who wants to may take it from me.

Your rainbow is strongly shaded violet.

What is says about you: You are a creative person. You appreciate beauty and craftsmanship. You are patient and will keep trying to understand something until you've mastered it.

Sigune tagged me - it's taken me awhile to get to it, but here goes! The rules are:

A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

I am, of course, ignoring "C"! Do this if you want to, but not otherwise. I am tagging deirdrej, a_s_arthur, Maria, Teresa, jongibbs, puckling, and litlover12. Sorry that I haven't yet learned to do pretty links! My answers are after the cut: Read more... )

I saw this on Bluey's livejournal, tried it, and the result was too good not to steal! Anyone who wants to may steal it from me:

How still we see thee lie.

The silent stars go by.

I got this from bluestocking79, who has answered some very fascinating questions in a most articulate manner, in spite of having the flu! Here is the meme - I've seen it before, but never dared to do it:

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So ask me something you want to know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.
mary_j_59: (Default)
I hope I didn't do this one already! It certainly doesn't belong to me, so anyone who wants to can take it from me. ) I took it three times, and got this result twice (and noticed, further down, that I came out a queen in the chess piece meme. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something!)

You are The High Priestess

Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods.

Travis Prinzi had this meme on his blog back in February; I came across it when I was looking for the Bitter Word's essay on Dumbledore as a narcissist, and I hope he doesn't mind my stealing it. Anyone who wants to may steal it from me!

Here are the rules Travis set out: For each character, try to sum them up with one word. I may add a word or two to explain my choices, being the talkative character that I am! If you like, you can list characters and single words before looking at mine, so you're not influenced by what I say. I'm also going to list the characters before doing the meme. Here goes:
