feeling a bit sad-

My little Sevvie died this morning, or late last night. I don't know what of - for a couple of days, he was sulking at the bottom of his bowl and spitting out his food. I tried medicating him, but all I had on hand was fungus guard and bettafix, and, of course, salt. Whatever I did wasn't the right thing.

Poor little guy. I really think he was a bit sick from the time I got him, and there was only one week or so in the two months I had him that he acted like a normal betta (making nests, swimming calmly, eating everything he was given, and so on). I am not as sad as I was when Charlie died, but I still feel bad and sorry about him - most of all because I wish I had known how to help him.

Aw, that's a shame. :-(

Thanks for responding. I just wish I could have done more for him.

Thanks, Puckling. At least (unlike poor little Charlie) he didn't seem to suffer long.

I know how that feels. I had to stop replacing mine because they all died so young. I did all the supposedly right things, too, like adding the right amounts of drops and all. I think they're middle-aged or older when they come home from the store. A few months is all they have.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Thanks. My sister lost two bettas very quickly before she got Nimbus, who's still plugging along (although with color loss and some fin damage) after a couple of years. And her Rubeus lived to be at least five, and my Benvolio Bashir Betta to a year and a bit. So we're not actually used to having bettas drop dead on us. Most of them have lived more than a year (Albus did, too).

You did everything you could and you gave him a good life while it lasted. Often it does come down to quality.

Yes, doesn't it? I am so glad the vet figured out what was happening to your kitty - and they can really be very good about taking their meds when they know they need it, and when it's well-disguised. My sister's second cat needed insulin for awhile, and she would hop onto her lap and wait for the needle. When she began to resist, it turned out she didn't need the insulin any more.
