Visual Dare - Fearless (or, Mary had a little lamb)

Another of Angela Goff's visual dares, from her blog. It's a remarkable picture! I'm afraid I committed fanfic as a result - highly improbable fanfic, too! But it's just for fun. The story follows the picture:

9183f896f04ea70a48dee36f4ef28109

Flabbergasted, Mortimer Wimsey glared at the dining room table, then at his daughter. She flinched.

“Polly! Get that damn thing off the table!”

Polly’s lips trembled, but she looked him in the eye. “Lambkin’s on strike, like the suffragettes.”

Mortimer saw his younger son, just home from Eton, squeeze his little sister’s hand. Peter seemed to be trying not to laugh. They’d be the death of him, these two. Far too clever for their own good. “Strike!” he spluttered. “Suffragettes! Why, you-“

Peter walked across the room and whispered in his father’s ear. Mortimer looked thoughtful. He rumbled, “Polly, listen to me. We know you’ve become a vegetarian. We know it’s a principled stand. But don’t you want to take Lambkin to school?” Polly nodded.

”Very well,” her father said triumphantly, “that beast shan’t go to your boarding school until you train it to stay off the furniture!”

Wonderful story! Way to go Polly, such principles. LOL clever old Daddy though, or should that be clever young Lord Peter? You've got Papa Wimsey portrayed beautifully :-)

Thanks, Lyn! Yes, it's clever young Lord Peter; Mortimer wouldn't have thought of that approach. As I said, this is highly improbable fanfic, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. ;)

Oh, BRILLIANT!

I loved the last one, but this is even better!! (Wonder what century you'll be in next time ....hmmm)
BTW, does the Visual Dare have to be based on a piece of literature or literary character -- or is that just what you do?

No, that's just what I do! Though my first visual dare prompt was entirely original. I've no idea where I'll end up for the next one, either. We shall see!

I like a bit of Peter Wimsey fan fiction! By the way, do you know a film called 'From Time to Time'? It was on TV here this afternoon. A rather good adaptation of 'The Chimneys of Green Knowe', I thought - well-made and sensitive.

Yes, I do know that film, and I thought it was really quite good. Deirdre and I were just talking about it the other night - about things we liked, and didn't like. I thought the historical story was particularly well done, but we both thought the conflict between the boy and his grandmother, and the splitting of the grandmother into two people, was unnecessary. A good film, though, and a wonderful cast! I'll try to give you a more coherent reply later; I'm rushing to get up to Mom and Dad's house right now. Will be off line, more or less, for about a week.

I am glad you liked the little story! I have never written Lord Peter fanfic before, and probably never will again, but I just couldn't resist when I saw that picture. ;)
