Thanks, and I'm glad you finally read it! I wanted (and your comment, like the others, makes me think I succeeded) to show the quality of love between them. They do love each other, very deeply in fact, but Margaret is spartan granny, demanding that her grandson come back with his shield or on it. She would far prefer with it - you are absolutely right about her intent in extracting that promise from him - but he has come to her precisely for that push she gives him, and in her heart she knows it.
This is one of two fanfics I actually showed my (nonfan) parents, and my dad thinks I should change the names in this one and publish it. It's very tempting; it feels entirely my own, unlike the earlier fanfics, and I love Margaret as a character. But, as my sister said, it casts such an interesting light on the potterverse characters, and might not have that depth as a stand alone. What do you think?
