Question: if he had felt any affection for Regulus at all, wouldn't he have let it slip that he *existed*?!
I think he wouldn't, because a)thinking of Regulus made him unhappy b)he was ashamed of Regulus, which is really the saddest part, and possibly c) because he felt guilty when thinking of Regulus. (Who wouldn't feel guilty if they believe their little brother was helplessly murdered at 18, because of getting into the wrong crowd, after they ignored him for at least 4 years.) I don't think Regulus was as important to him as he should have been, but I don't see the same contempt he shows against the rest of the family. Basically, I think his feelings are a bit more complicated there than just acting according to his animal instincts ... or I just want to see it that way.
