Actually, in my original (pre- DH) conception, the family was going to be half-and half. Lily a witch (Ravenclaw, in spite of her pretty obvious Slytherin tendencies here!), and Chris a squib. Severus Michael Snape was going to be reinstated as Defense teacher and Deputy Head of Hogwarts. After DH, I decided I had to take Snape, and therefore his family, out of the Potterverse altogether. But there are all kinds of magic, don't you think? All four of them are pretty strong personalities (and Jane, with her patience and common sense, does quite a bit of leading, actually. You're right about that.)
Thanks for your comment - I can't believe you went and read *all* the "Christopher" stories! You said in another post you were a SS/HG shipper. Did you give them any kids? I'd be interested to see your stories. The only problem I have with SS/HG is the power dynamic, because Hermione always seemed to want Snape's approval as a student. Oddly, though she is even younger, Luna is such a strong person in her way that I can actually see SS/LL working, where SS/HG might not. But I do enjoy some SS/HG, and I like your style - based on the story I just read (the bottomless drawer was priceless!)
