Yes, I realised after I'd posted that I'd misunderstood what you were saying. I think that her world is for the most part so closed off that saying 'magic is a power that no-one should have' would be like saying 'electricity is a power no-one should have' - but of course they are not the same . . . and the issue is not addressed.
Funnily enough, most teachers I know tend to be quite pro-Snape. I'm inclined to think that the damage he might have done would have been minimised by the fact that, a few favoured Slytherins (and favoured because they were Slytherins) aside, he was pretty hard on everyone. So although he was worse with some people, like Harry or Neville, they got plenty of sympathy, which helped them to cope. And I bet they learned!
