Well, as a Catholic, I find what I see as Rowling's conscious message (you can be damned at the age of 11 from what a *hat* says to you; the 'good' guys can do, with no consequences to them or anyone else, what the 'bad guys' are condemned for doing; your intentions matter more than your actions, so that Harry can do no wrong because his heart is pure, while Severus can, apparently do no right because - well, I don't quite know. Because he's a Slytherin?) - I find all this utterly wrong and repellent. Her apparent subconscious message, which she *never* makes overt or acknowledges in any way (Snape's heroism and beauty of soul, shown in his Patronus; Dumbledore's moral and personal failings; the unspoken father-son/elder brother-younger brother relationship between Severus and Harry) is a lot more positive, but is never really resolved . So, basically, I agree with everything you have said here.
