Subvert away, Anne, as far as I'm concerned! Because I cannot believe for a moment that the casual friendship and one-sided infatuation which is all we see in "The Prince's Tale" would be enough to 'save' Severus. But more on that in my essay, too.
And I think that commentator was right. I think Dumbledore did deliberately set Severus up to die, just as he did Harry. And he never told either one of them the truth. Rowling would be furious, probably, at my saying so, but Severus Snape comes across - even the (apparently) diminished Severus of DH - as by far the most honest, honorable and selfless person in these books. He just doesn't lie - not that I can remember, anyway. Dumbledore actually, actively lies. But it's his cruelty to a very vulnerable young man and boy, and his manipulation of them, that is utterly chilling when you think about it.
Will you be cross-posting the essay on your website, or will it be exclusive to Scribbulus? I have not (yet) been to that website. Looking forward to reading the new version, in any case. ;)
