Here are four poems that I came up with in creative writing club today. It was a poetry writing workshop, and the kids also did very good work, which I may post on our library blog with their permission. I am a bit wary about posting the fourth poem here, as I think it might be suitable for my book, so I may take it down - in any case, all these are the intellectual property of me, Mary Johnson, and are dated today. The poems follow the cut:

The exercise was freewriting. We all wrote down a list of random words, and then chose a few of them and wrote poems based on those. Pretty easy to see which words inspired me!

1. A fish desires water
(maybe).
In his dreams,
He becomes a river,
Relentless,
Flowing to the sea.
(Or maybe not.
Maybe legs
Are what he really wants.)

2. The width of the river
Frightened me,
For I could not swim.

3. A person sleeps;
dreams a desire:
He is a fish who
swims in the river.

4. The stars are flying
in the water.
The night is warm.
Fireflies
reflect
the falling stars.
