I sent it, Anne! Hope you will enjoy it. Deirdre is reading it through right now, also - what I'm hoping is that you (and she) can read it straight through, as if it were a novel you had bought or gotten out of the library. If you can tell me how it holds up to that sort of reading, that will be exactly what I want.

And - that is sad about your church. I know how you feel, because Pope Benedict, much as I admire him, seems to favor the "small-tent, dogmatically-rigid" form of Catholicism. And - I love my Church because it confronts the great mysteries of the Incarnation and the Resurrection head-on, without watering down any of their complexities. But it is still a church, a human construct. What it preserves (the sacraments) are great truths, but I just can't see why the Church therefore has the right to slam doors in peoples' faces. I agree with you that this is just the opposite of what Jesus would do.

So, yes, I think I feel the same way. And thank God for the storm of protest! Anyway, I hope that there will be a good resolution and that you, as a faithful person, won't suffer from the decision of the higher-ups.

And I do hope you'll enjoy the novel! Looking forward to your reactions.
