I absolutely agree with you about all of this - so let us hope that JKR does too! I think she is now a member of the Church of Scotland, which is Presbyterian, and the church I grew up in, and it would certainly see forgiveness, redemption and reconciliation as being vital to any story that pretended to be Christian. I am just slightly alarmed when I think of some of the things JKR has seemed to say in interviews - but then, she can't give away the ending of the story, can she?
