The essay that I have been dying to write before the DH release.

"...I remember hating you for loving me...."
So perfect in describing Snape's position in the books. I can imagine that quote being passed between Snape to DD on the Tower.

I don't want him to be wrong!"
ME too! I hate criticism of DD and don't take it too well when I do read it!

To attempt to spy on one of the most powerful wizards of his era in order to aid the other is not the act of a coward.
Well put!

I have to admit that, given free will, Snape might be simply a bad guy.
Yeh, being on the side of good doesn't automatically equal being a nice person.

And Snape and Harry are actually very alike.
To add to your list - they also share a connection with Voldemort that pains them. Harry through his mind and Snape through his DArk Mark.

Half blood - witch mother, muggle father
Voldemort had a pure-blood witch mother not a half blood, as witnessed in the House of Gaunt.

As to Harry, he has a normal sense of humor for a boy his age, laughing at Fred and George's rough practical jokes and their puns and accepting teasing from his friends, something Snape cannot do.
Notably something Hermione found hard to do, easy of conversation and ribbing doesn't come well to her and only through her friendship with Harry and Ron is she saved. However, she can still be quite obtuse and intrusive in her comments - the rabbit Blinky incident!

As to humor, Voldemort doesn't have any.
Its a sick one. He tries to be funny and sarcastic but it comes across as desperate.

He obeys Dumbledore, and I think he will continue to obey Dumbledore, and protect Harry, until his last breath.
Do you ever wonder if the Werewolf caper constituted as the Life Debt that he owes James? I don't think it does. I think James may have saved his life in a nother incident that we have yet to learn about.

I sincerely hope Rowling doesn't flatten this fascinating character and ignore the
resonances she seems to have set up with Harry by making Snape a mere villain.

I think Rowling is aware of the complex character she has created in Snape and we won't be dissappointed.

Again, great work. I always like reading pov on the Snape debate. Saves me having to write my own!
