Agree, Harry is a celebrity, but only because his parents did something quite notable. So he's more like a celebrity-spawn, contrasted with a fairy tale or Christ figure.

Jokes aside, I agree with you. The business of Snape asking Voldemort to spare Lily's life is plausible to me. Voldemort agreeing to do so is less plausible--but on the other hand, it would give him perfect leverage over Snape in case he needed, so I can see Voldemort doing that. The utterly implausible bit is that, having agreed to "try" to save Lily, that Voldemort wouldn't just Imperio or stun her, kill Harry, make his Horcrux, and then carry her off to his evil lair.
