Again, I agree with you, horridporrid. Harry does not choose love over power. No one does - except perhaps, when you squint sideways, Severus Snape. If there is a Christ figure in this story at all (I don't really think there is), he is it. He sacrifices everything - reputation, friendships, life itself, maybe his very soul - for the sake of a boy who hates him. And he gets nothing in return. Harry sacrifices nothing, and gets everything he ever wanted. At least, that's the way it strikes me.
But what really bugs me about Harry is that he never, ever has to apologize for, or thank anyone for, anything.
