We are going round in circles a bit. You're not being required to like particular characters and loathe others - to judge them. Well, you can judge them if you like, but what you're being asked to do is get over the judging and acknowledge and understand them for themselves - Harry as much as Draco.
The cruciatus is a case in point: both Draco and Harry use it. They're 'supposed to be' opposites but they do the same thing.
I'm guessing that for you the sectumsempra incident is set up so that Harry doesn't have to face up to what he did - or, actually, to justify Harry in what he did. I'd say that it was set up so that 'good' or 'right' is impossible to find - in other words to be a moral mess - in order to push us to look at the characters. Draco shouldn't have done it, Harry shouldn't have done it, Snape shouldn't have used the incident to wallow in his own issues! - that's all obvious, but they all did. Why?
I can't get het up over Zacharias Smith. He appears in HP twice. He is a caricature.
Voldemort is a monster - actually he's made himself a monster - choices and abilities - but he felt regret at killing Snape. He wouldn't allow himself to face it. (He's a very busy monster!)
Most jokes dehumanize - think of the most basic - man slips on banana skin. What's funny about that? He could have hurt himself! But making jokes is such a vital part of being human.
