I had read this essay before back when I first started reading in HP fandom--last August or September, I think; without realizing it was yours (or more accurately, without realizing when you friend me that you were Pillar's author). It really shaped a lot of my thinking about Snape that's gone into my own fanfic, so thank you. I tend to work things out in fiction more than in essays.
