I told Dad today that I had posted online and was trying to find Johnny, and asked him if he could give me any information. Here is what he told me:
1.I had the name misspelled. It's John Hancin.
2. He was from Cleveland, Ohio.
3. He was the Chief Petty Officer at the Naval Air station in Hutchinson.
And then, of course, there's all the info below.

Again, please link to this post - pass it on! And thanks, and happy (belated) Memorial day.

Thank you! I hope so, too; you would think someone out there would know something about him-

Wow, there was a Naval Air Station in Hutchinson? Can't get more land-locked than that. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. My dad was in the Army during WWII, and my parents lived near there after that. But I don't remember ever hearing of anyone with that last name, especially that spelling. It's really unusual. That might actually help in the end. Less confusing than all the Hansons and Hansens, who must have a lot of family members named John.

Good luck with it. I'll post it on facebook as well.

I also posted it on Twitter, though I don't know how many people actually see anything I post there. But it's worth a try.

Thanks, eeyore! Nice to see you back, though I actually envy you your cool weather. ) We were having that earlier in the spring, but we are in summer heat right now, and it's quite humid.

As I said in one of my responses below, Hutchinson was actually a great place for an airfield, and it was a naval air station. Dad also said the flatness was like the sea, when you thought about it. And, of course, it was a good place for a hospital, which is where Dad worked - he was a medic.
