Oh dear! That sounds all too familiar! Local councils in Britain are being faced with huge cuts to their funding, and may libraries are closing as a result. The government want people (retired people, young mums and the like) to volunteer to staff them in their spare time, but don't seem to appreciate what a professional librarian does. And sacking a skilled professional and appointing a fundraiser - how often have I heard that!
