In addition, I just realized something the other day. My story, "All Hallows Eve", has not been canon-shafted! Well, not entirely. The one thing that doesn't work at all is the warm, father-son mentoring relationship between Dumbledore and Severus. I do regret that deeply. Dumbledore was (imho) shockingly cruel to young Severus in canon, and would never have spoken to him, or felt about him, as I have him do. But, oddly, the rest of the story still works, because (1) I postulate that Snape loved Lily, and (2) that he knew Petunia (something some of my readers doubted, but I agreed that he was 'that awful boy'. Finally, I thought he would have done anything, up to and including risking his own life, to keep her safe from Voldemort. That much is actually canon now.

CMwinters, this is for you. We were right. Snape was there that night. (after all, we still have no explanation of Dumbledore's odd knowledge, nor of the missing 24 hours.)

I am commenting over here as I don't want to deal with that "not an essay" poster anymore. There is just no talking with her. She just doesn't get that hp_essays is an informal discussion community.

Agree. I once met Randa Haines, the director of "Children of a Lesser God" and I asked her if William Hurt was really that difficult to work with (that's his HWood reputation) and she replied that the man can't work unless he is casuing problems. And that's just the way some people are --- they thrive on controversy and pushing people's buttons. But I can tell by her last response to me that she is a bit of a dingbat, so I will just jump on my broom and fly away.
