Star Wars books?:	One or two - wouldn't read more. I lost interest in Star Wars after "Phantom Menace", and anyway, Star Wars is meant to be seen, not read. It's not literature.
Star TREK books?:	A few. They were mostly mediocre. See above. (the best - at least, most enjoyable "Star Trek " book I ever read was "How Much for Just the Planet, by John Ford, a joke!

I don't think it's actually about REM the band, though (I rather like them). I think it might be something to do with dreams? Maybe by Philbrick? If so, I might have read it for review and found it forgettable. I certainly forgot it, if I did read it!

Yes - just wanted to let you know it's that miserable book by Rodman Philbrick. Look at the SLJ review on amazon for a good review - this is about what I thought. A completely incoherent fantasy; worse yet, meant for kids, who need and want coherence in their fantasy. I read it because I had to, and never read anything else by Philbrick. Perhaps that's unfair of me. I hear "Freak the Mighty" is actually good.

Nice quiz. This sort of thing is why I love the internet. *wallows in the geekiness*

I'm rather embarassed to find that I can name masses of Death Eaters. Even though I like to gripe about the characterisation of the HP villains, JKR's terribly good at making even throw away references sound like they have a great story behind them. Rosier, Dolohov, Jugson, Rookwood, Karkaroff, Snape -also the weird brother and sister at the end of HBP. I can never remember their names, but they were almost as creepy as Greyback.

Ooh, they were *horrrible*. Orcs, essentially, but you're right - Rowling (like Tolkien) makes that particular sort of banal evil altogether too convincing. Speaking of Tolkien, he told his son Christopher during WWII that there were orcs everywhere, and they weren't all on the German side. But you probably knew that?

I loved your little meditation on the letter "f" and am off to answer it, though I don't quite know what I am supposed to do.

(And did you read my latest on Snape's son Christopher? Begging shamelessly for readers - embarassed - but I would like to know what you think?)

One of the best Death Eater fanfics I've ever read is A Difficult Night by dolabellae.

I hadn't heard of that saying by Tolkien before. It does sound very *him* though, and very shrewd, as might be expected.

Yes, I have read Tommy Serpent. I thought it was sweet and interesting to read about a milder postwar Snape. The suggestion of him having retained his legilimancy abilities was something I particularly enjoyed, also the irony in the "if you were a wizard" conversation.
